On the morning of 13 July, an optional seminar for wineries or personnel new to exporting will be held at the Marlborough Convention Centre. The First Steps to Exporting primer will explore important aspects of exporting wine and set the scene for the Exporters' Forum itself.

Kicking off the New Zealand Wine Exporters' Forum will be our special guest keynote speaker. More info coming soon...

For a global perspective, an overview will be presented by Nielsen on consumer insights in our main markets. This session will explore key issues and look at current market trends.

The Forum will then unveil the results of a global survey on sustainability and what it means to the gatekeepers in the trade. Following the analysis of the results the focus will shift to how wineries should leverage the sustainable message through marketing and communications.

At the end of the first day delegates can take the opportunity to meet with speakers and catch up with fellow delegates in an informal setting at the Drinks Networking Function to be held in the Pre-Function area at the Marlborough Convention Centre. Following this function an exclusive opportunity is offered to wineries paying the New Zealand Winegrowers Generic Fee to attend the optional Generic Fee Payers Dinner with Speakers at Drylands restaurant in Blenheim.

Day two is split with morning sessions and afternoon workshops. The morning session will focus on how to grow business in profitable markets and will highlight key trends and opportunities for New Zealand wine in North America and Northern Europe. Sessions will examine market research and look at the opportunities, dynamics, strategies for success and advice on managing importer and distributor relationships in Scandinavia and the USA.

In the afternoon delegates will break out into smaller workshops where constructive discussions can take place with world class speakers from the forum.

Participate in your choice of two of the below workshop options:

  • Marketing and brand development: Stand out from the commodity crowd
  • The Big Red: Understanding Chinese culture from a wine industry perspective
  • Firing up the frontline troops: Training & tools for US retail
  • Making the most of the Rugby World Cup
  • Sustainability practices and their places in marketing
  • Getting the best out of the internet: Online & social media

Following the afternoon workshops, attention will switch to a Canadian market overview bolstered by video interviews with Monopoly buyers offering an insight into key channels of monopoly distribution, relevant market trends, issues and opportunities, and best practices for success.

After the forum closes, delegates can attend a comparative tasting of international and New Zealand wines at the Convention Centre. This will offer an insight into the quality and pricing of the key competition in our main markets. Canapés will be served.

The first session of the final day will explore the growing market of China. Presentations from influential Chinese speakers will outline the practicalities in dealing with the complex market as well as looking at consumer insights and issues surrounding wine export.

Following brunch, the forum will continue with in-depth sessions on increasing profitability in established markets and specifically look at the dynamics of growing value in multiples and independents in UK and Australia. Ideas on broadening on-trade distribution and working with the restaurant trade will be presented and the day will conclude with a focus on opportunities in mail order and online retail.
